[1Day-1CS] Full and half duplex communication (1)

1 Day 1CS, A Quick Recap of the Introduction to Full and Half Duplex Communications

Full-duplex communication

A method in which both devices can transmit and receive simultaneously.

  • Separate transmit and receive paths to send and receive data

  • Modern Fast Ethernet uses this method

Half-duplex communication

Both devices can communicate with each other, but not at the same time Only one direction of communication at a time based on one path

  • If there is a collision after sending data, proceed with retransmission after a period of time

  • Wired LAN

    • Twisted pair cable: cable twisted together to reduce noise (crosstalk)

    • Fiber optic cable: A cable that transmits light by utilizing the difference in refractive index of the core and cable.

  • Wireless LAN

    • Half-duplex communication, which uses the same channel for both transmitting and receiving.
